Controlling outdoor pests is best accomplished before they hatch, rather than taking care of the problem when you have an infestation during the spring and summer months. Beneficial nematodes are used as a tool for organic pest control. Nematodes are microscopic, worm-like creatures that feed on the eggs and larvae of common insects that mature in the soil throughout the year. Typically, they infect insects in their larval or pupal state, but have even been shown to infect adult insects. Once the nematodes have become a parasite to their chosen host, they release toxic bacterium the kills the bug within 48 hours. If of the host does not occur, the insect is usually rendered sterile and disabled.

Beneficial nematodes are naturally occurring and can be used anywhere that pests exist such as homes, businesses, and farms. They are safe for people, pets, and plants. Nematodes can be applied on a schedule to prevent infestations or for pest removal after an infestation has occurred. If they are applied after an infestation, it should be reduced after a few days. Without a healthy supply of honey bees, crops cannot pollinate and therefore do not produce. As the bee population declines, food production becomes more difficult and expensive. Solving this problem is extremely important to ensure enough food is produced during growing seasons. Without the bees, famine is inevitable. Controlling lawn and outdoor pests is an important facet to any home owner. People pay lucrative amounts of money for property; to some people their home is the most cherished possession they will ever own. The last thing they want is to have a pest problem in their lawn and plant that can ruin outdoor experiences. Luckily, there are ways to prevent these infestations and primarily the main form of protection is through chemicals which will prevent pests from invading landscape.

However, landscape pest control is composed of oil based chemicals that come with both environmental and health drawbacks. There are many negative effects these chemicals can have on your life. The first aspect of life which these chemicals can negatively impact is the environment. Chemicals used as pest control have been shown to linger longer in the environment than most substances and contaminate water supplies, food sources, and even the atmosphere. Using chemical pest controls is environmentally irresponsible and has ultimately lead to a global contamination crisis.
