Lawn care which is purely organic has many benefits and aspects the homeowner should consider as a way of reducing exposure to toxic chemicals and reducing the environmental footprint that can come with having a chemically treated lawn. Purely organic lawn care means using only ingredients which are free of contaminates and available naturally in order to create a lawn that is lush, healthy, sustainable, and free of man-made chemicals. Therefore, in order for your lawn to be considered organic, your lawn care program must avoid commonplace fertilizers, pesticides, and weed control herbicides that are derived from oil and natural gas.

Organic lawn care is an excellent alternative to traditional lawn fertilization and care programs that are currently provided. Our program will eventually succeed on your lawn and the transitional can be quicker if additional lawn maintenance steps are taken. To speed up the organic transition of your lawn, a few maintenance points must be made that help BR Green’s organic lawn care program:

  1. Set your lawn mower to 3 or 3 1/2 inches. If you have a lawn service company, be sure to inform them of your mowing requirements. It’s essential that your turf is tall in order to block the sun from sprouting roots and allow grass blades to mature fully to complete efficient photosynthesis.
  2. Water your yard less, but for longer periods during the evening hours. By watering for extended periods, less frequently, you force your lawn roots to grow deeper for water. Deeper roots ensure a more durable and lush lawn. If you’re watering in the mornings or afternoons, the Sun’s heat will evaporate most of the water before it can be absorbed deeply into the soil. By watering in the late evening, your yard will soak up the available water and retain its moisture for much longer.
  3. Always mulch your grass when mowing or inform your lawn maintenance company to do so. Grass clippings provide natural nitrogen and organic matter to the soil and are consumed faster than your regular mowing creates. In addition to health, grass clippings make it more difficult for weeds to sprout.
  4. Utilize an organic weed control program or an organic pest control program over traditional systems that are chemical based. Synthetic pesticides and weed control products destroy microorganism life in your soil and eventually pollute local ecosystems. Another alternative to weed control spray, is by using a weed removal tool that makes quick work of weeds before they spread.
