Benefits of Purely Organic Lawn Care

Lawn care which is purely organic has many benefits and aspects the homeowner should consider as a way of reducing exposure to toxic chemicals and reducing the environmental footprint that can come with having a chemically treated lawn. Purely organic lawn care means using only ingredients which are free of contaminates and available naturally in order to create a lawn that is lush, healthy, sustainable, and free of man-made chemicals. Therefore, in order for your lawn to be considered organic, your lawn care program must avoid commonplace fertilizers, pesticides, and weed control herbicides that are derived from oil and natural gas.

One of the ways of maintaining a lawn organically is to recycle grass clippings as part of the care regimen. Your lawn should generally be mowed at the 3″ setting on your mower to ensure mature grass growth. If you cut too short, photosynthesis is not fully achieved. Further, the grass clippings contain many nutrients from the underlying soil which can be returned with adequate decomposition and recycling. This is achieved by spreading grass clipping over the lawn after mowing or buy using a mulching blade on your lawn mower. The clippings will quickly decompose and reduce the need for constant fertilization. Adequate decomposition of the clippings can be maintained by insuring a healthy earthworm population in the soil who help to maintain soil health and speed up the decomposition process overall in the soil base.

Even though recycling soil clippings helps tremendously in maintaining soil nutrients in the lawn, there will eventually be a loss of soil nutrients due to leaching and runoff that will have to be addressed by other means. The purely organic lawn maintenance method would require in this instance that nutrients be added to the soil by non-chemical methodologies that ensure a healthy soil environment. BR Green’s organic lawn care program utilizes a liquefied compost mixture that contains all the necessary nutrients for soil fertilization.

Traditional lawn care programs use petroleum based fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides that must be continually fed to the soil in order to ensure anything will grow. When these chemicals are added, soil microbes are destroyed and turf root growth does not penetrate deeply into the soil. This microbial life is essential to the soil’s ecosystem as it provides food and nutrients to plant life in your landscape. Shallow root systems create a lawn that is vulnerable to drought and climate fluctuations.

BR Green’s organic lawn care promotes deep root growth through healthy soil. As the roots become thicker, the lawn is much more tolerant to drought, needs less watering, and is more likely to survive times of extreme heat and cold. However, the best reason of all, is to consider the Earth, your pets, and family. BR Green’s program is purely organic and does not pollute or cause negative health affects. The time to transition you lawn off chemicals is now. Contact us today to learn more!
